Malibu

There’s no place quite like Malibu. This idyllic beach community with 27 miles of scenic coastline beckons visitors from around the world and its wooded hills and canyons offer a chance to reconnect with nature. Despite its worldwide renown, Malibu still offers the feel of a small town where people know and care about each other. Known locally as the 'Bu, much of Malibu is arrayed along a long curving stretch of Pacific Coast Highway. The area is famed for its beaches including Surfrider Beach, Zuma Beach, Point Dume Beach, Topanga Beach, and Dan Blocker Beach.

Real Estate: Malibu real estate is all about the beach. Many of the area's most expensive properties sit directly on the beach with Carbon Beach being especially known for beautiful and very expensive real estate. Malibu Colony is a gated community that offers estate properties, many with expansive ocean views. Malibu real estate also extends into the surrounding hills and canyons where properties often have larger lots and feature ocean views.

Community Life: Community life is often beach-centered although there is also a large equestrian component as well. The Malibu Country Mart with its stores and restaurants is a popular destination. The Malibu Library has a children's reading room and hosts a popular speaker series feature experts in a wide range of subjects. The Malibu Farmers Market takes place every Sunday in the Malibu Library parking lot.

Education:Malibu is served by the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. There are three public elementary schools: John L. Webster Elementary, Juan Cabrillo Elementary, and Point Dume Marine Science School a California Distinguished School, and it is ranked in the top 5 percent of schools in California. Malibu High School is included in the U.S.News Best High Schools list. Local private schools include Our Lady of Malibu. Malibu is also home to Pepperdine University, a private university famed for its beautiful campus. Pepperdine is also the location for Seaver College, the School of Law, the Graduate School of Education and Psychology, the Graziadio School of Business and Management, and the School of Public Policy.

Transportation: Malibu is accessed by the Pacific Coast Highway from the 10 Freeway and can also be reached via several twisting canyon roads, which lead from the 101 to the beach. The 534 bus travels from Santa Monica to Malibu.

Local Attractions: The beach is the main attraction with many beautiful beaches to choose from including El Matador and El Pescador. The Adamson House and Malibu Lagoon Museum is a chance to tour a beautiful home decorated with stunning ceramic tiles. The Malibu Pier is a popular destination for walking out on the water and grabbing a meal. There are several local wineries offering wine tasting and hiking and trail riding is popular in the hills.
